I finally got over my cold that lasted over 2 weeks. Yay!
I went to the premier of a movie called "The Project" that Clifford (my simba friend) is in. It was such an interesting movie. It is a movie that is about two people making a documentary on the lives of 2 members of the NYPD and a family that lives in the projects in Brooklyn, and how their lives intersect. It was very graphic with language and some violence, but if you can get past the incessant "f's" and "n's", the story is really good. The person who follows the family in the projects is a young white girl, who obviously encounters some problems because of that. Afterwards I was thinking about the movie, and I found myself asking "Why would she do that? Why would she put herself in those situations?" Then I realized my life is similar in some ways to that character and it all made sense. I'm sure people ask the same type of questions about me and what I am doing. I really hope the movie comes out in theaters so everyone can see it.
My family came and spent over a week with me. Clayton came also, so there were 7 of us living in my one bedroom apartment. Here are a few pictures of my apartment. You can use your imagination and see how cramped we were.

The boys slept in the living room, where we had a queen air mattress that also served as sitting space, and then they pulled out a twin air mattress that Davis slept on, and he was about halfway in the kitchen most nights.
The girls slept in my room. My mom got the top bunk while the Megan, Morgan, and I all slept on the bottom bunk and my bed that were pushed together.
We (and by we, I mean my mom) cooked our Thanksgiving dinner in my little kitchen with about 6 sq. inches of counter space. It was pretty impressive. We could only cook one thing at a time, but our meal was all hot or at least warm when we ate. And it was delicious.
The first part of their visit, I was busy with work for 4 full days, so they went sightseeing. Thursday we went to the Thanksgiving parade, which was an experience in itself, and probably a once in a lifetime experience. Friday we went to see Wicked and then went to the South Street Seaport for dinner. After dinner we walked by a Gap that was advertising sweaters buy one get one free, so naturally I had to stop. While we were shopping, this guy came up to Megan and I and asked us if we would be interested in being on Made. For anyone who doesn't know, Made is a tv show on MTV where high school kids want to be made into something or someone else. For example, this particular kid wanted to be made into a ladies man. We agreed, because seriously, how can you turn down a chance to be on tv, AND get a good story to tell? We go outside and his friends were having a light saber fight and asked us if we wanted to have one. Long story short, the kid comes over and starts talking to us and asks us out and for our numbers. Megan used the "out of town" card, and left me high and dry. I didn't want to look rude, so when he asked for my number, I gave it to him. He hands me his phone to put it in and then goes away to check on something. The camera man was gone too, so after awhile, he comes back and says he didn't know what was going on, but that we could leave if we wanted. We don't know if they will even use the footage, but they said they would call if it was used.
Thanksgiving week was very busy at Graffiti 2. We had an evangelism training Monday night with about 20 people attending, a Thanksgiving meal on Tuesday with well over 100 people there, and then the big hurrah on Wednesday. Wednesday morning we assembled and distributed about 65 Thanksgiving boxes full of food for a Thanksgiving meal to people in the community, as well as people from our programs. Later that day, we took 10 teenagers to Graffiti in Manhattan to help serve a Thanksgiving meal. It was a great week for Graffiti 2 with lots of encouraging things happening.
Then there was this week....
This week was pretty discouraging for me. I had 3 rough days in after school and one that was better, but still not ideal. I struggled with some kids daily, and others just on certain occasions. I felt like there was nothing I could do to change the situation. It was stressful to say the least. I made it through the week and now I only have this next week left of after school. Then it will be another crazy busy week getting things ready for our Christmas celebration. Then vacation!
I can't believe it is December. It hasn't felt like Christmas season to me yet, but I think it is starting to. I am planning on getting a Christmas tree tomorrow and some decorations for it. I am getting a REAL tree and I am so excited!
This week I started listening to podcasts on my ipod that I have had, but never really paid attention to. It is a free one from Highland (the church I went to in college). I had one series that I got hooked on like a good movie or tv show. It is called "Your Very Own Chick Flick" and basically talks about doing relationships God's way. This is all things I have heard before, but this time it was different and captivated me even more than my favorite chick flick. I am considering listening to it again, but I am trying to branch out and learn new things. I decided that these podcasts were more meaningful than the same playlist I listen to on my daily commute. I find myself getting frustrated though when I trains go by and I can't hear it. The podcasts aren't as loud as my music, so even when the volume is all the way up, some things drown the sound out and I get so annoyed.
I think that is enough blogging for one day.
